On Wednesday 4 October 2023, I had the pleasure of hosting an exceptional cigar evening for the Fidelio Club of Montauban, held at the Golf de Montauban L’Estang. Located just 5 minutes from the town centre, this 18-hole course spans 55 hectares of century-old oaks, offering a lush, authentic setting.
The Star Cigar: CAO Arcana Firewalker
For this evening, we showcased the CAO Arcana Firewalker, a cigar from CAO’s Arcana series, which explores traditional and unique fermentation methods. The Firewalker is made from Nicaraguan tobaccos fermented using the rare “chincagre” technique, which involves burying the leaves under Nicaragua’s hot volcanic soil for a distinctive maturation.
This cigar stands out for its Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper, its Nicaraguan binder and its filler leaves fermented using the chincagre method. Once lit, it reveals complex, flavourful notes of hickory and leather with a smooth finish.
How the Evening Went
Members of the Fidelio Club gathered in the warm atmosphere of the Golf de Montauban L’Estang clubhouse. After a detailed introduction to the CAO Arcana Firewalker, we moved on to a guided tasting, letting everyone appreciate this cigar’s unique aromas.
Guests shared their impressions, noting in particular earthy notes, cocoa, nutmeg and black pepper, offering a rich and nuanced tasting experience.
